“Welcome,
Melanie. I could not believe that you actually would want to meet me”
With
that, he ambled towards Melanie who was still immobile. She could not believe
it. The Rex who she only knew yesterday could lie to her. Rex mentioned to her
that he was a high school student. But the one who stood right in front of her
now is a man who has beard and looked like a married guy. Sensing the danger
ahead, she tried to escape. Rex, who was planning the whole meeting session,
already knew the action that Melanie would take. He grabbed Melanie’s wrist in
an iron-like grip and threw her on a heap of hay. Melanie groaned in pain and
rubbed her bruised wrist painstakingly. A shadow loomed over her and she
scooted towards a corner. She hugged her knees and rested her chin on her
kneecaps. Pearly beads of tear started to trickle down her pallid cheeks,
leaving colourless trail behind. She was shaking violently. She really hoped
that Bryan would come to comfort her on that time.
“My,
why are you crying now? Do not you really want to meet Rex so much? I am Rex.
Now that you have fallen into my trap, there is no one wants to help you
anymore” Rex chortled hysterically. Melanie closed her eyes in fear as Rex’s
hands started to roam around her neck. He was about to go deeper when suddenly
he felt a tap on his shoulder. He stopped in abrupt and turned around just to
meet with the awaiting knuckles right on the bridge of his nose. Crimson blood
rolled down as he howled in extreme pain. Two more punches went straight on his
abdomen and one kick flew towards his head. The sound of cracking bones could
be heard. Rex doubled over in agony and passed out cold on the floor.
Melanie,
who was too petrified too unveil her eyes, stoned in the same condition. Out of
the blue, her shoulder was shook. She opened her eyes slowly and peeked at the
boy in front of her who was holding out her hand to aid her. She felt as if the
world around her spun in a fast pace as she recognized the boy who had helped
her. It was Bryan! She leaped into his awaiting arms and sobbed on his shirt.
“It is okay now. Just relax” Bryan caressed her hair affectionately and rubbed
some soothing circles on her back. He shot a death glare at Rex and swore to
get rid of him from Melanie’s life.
After
almost an hour, Melanie was at her treasured home again with Bryan by her side.
She was still traumatized by the unexpected incident and needed Bryan to
console her. She learnt that Bryan was looking for her at the morning and found
no one in her room. Then, he saw a note about the meeting and as fast as a
lightning, darted off towards the warehouse. Melanie was so grateful that Bryan
was searching for her or else it would be the most excruciating moment in her
life. Rex was actually the cyber criminal which has been searched by the police
for almost a month. Since then, she then understood why Bryan did not want her
to accept stranger as a friend. From that day onwards, Melanie did not log in
to her Facebook account anymore. She had been actively finding friends in the
reality and Bryan praised her for such an improvement. One thing which she bore
in mind: do not trust strangers no matter from the web or reality.
A
sudden sprinkle of water on her face pulled her back to reality. Bryan was giggling
while watching my blank face. “Where have you zoned out to?” Melanie beamed in
delight as she splashed him with more water. Now, Bryan and Melanie are
married. They live in ecstasy without any interruption. Not from the network or
the real life and of course, not from the Facebook.
“Bryan,
I feel so lucky that you saved me that day. If it was not for your ‘act first
before think’, I do not know where and how I would end up now” Melanie squeezed
Bryan’s calloused hands with full of affection. Bryan caressed her hair and
beamed. They looked at each other meaaningfully and indulged themselves in a
chaste kiss.
“I
will always be there for you, darling. No matter how much seas of fire or
jungles of thorns I must go through”
